Cuaba Cigars
Genuine Habanos Cuaba cigar from Cuba, hold the cigar market as a premium cigars even after the embargo was placed on the product.
The first reference of the word Cuaba dates back to 16th Century. The Taino Indian word "Cuaba" had the meaning for the bush that was allotted to light the "Cohiba" or "Tobacco" on the Island of Cuba. The bush is famous for its perfect burning characteristic, and is still grown in Cuba.
It was Spaniard Francisco Cabañas who went into history by registering in 1810 the Cabañas brand, one of the oldest Habano trademarks.
The "Cuaba" cigars are unique due to its unusual so called "torpedo" shape pointed in both ends. Due to its shape cigars are commonly called figurados, that was developed to a complete satisfaction of the cigar aficionados. Reducing the intensity, this unique shape gives the exquisite taste as medium-bodied with well balanced complex flavors.
Cuaba was officially launched by Habanos president Francisco Linares on November 19th, 1996 at Claridge's Hotel in London, Great Britain, as an all-perfecto line of cigars. The brand was launched in an attempt to revive figurados, which had initially been very popular in the early 20th century but had declined since about the 1950's. For the release party, the creator of the line, Carlos Izquierdo González, and fourteen other highly-skilled torcedores (cigar rollers) demonstrated making figurado cigars. The original Cuabas were of slightly differing sizes within the same box, due to a cigar mold not being used to press them into shape. When molds were finally made for Cuaba around a year later, these original non-molded cigars became great collectors' items.
The tobacco used in Cohiba cigars is some of the finest grown in Cuba. They are taken from first-class plantations found in the San Luis and San Juan region, in the Pinar del Rio province.
A very unique feature about Cohiba is the tobacco used to make the cigars undergoes through three fermentation processes. While this process may be costly and time-consuming, it gives the tobacco leaves a unique flavor, but also a very soft texture and very light color. It's what gives Cohiba cigars their finesse and refinement.
