Though Cohiba may have the distinction of being the first post-Revolution cigar brand created, no one knew of the brand outside of higher-ranking Cuban officials, the torcedores (cigar rollers) that made them, and foreign dignitaries lucky enough to be given a box as a diplomatic present. The first new brand of cigars to come out of Cuba after the Revolution was Diplomaticos.

Being manufacturing in the Jose Marti factory in Havana, Diplomaticos brand is completely devoted to handmade cigars, with the sizes and names similar to Montecristo nomenclature. The brand was introduced in 1966 firstly aimed for the French cigar market, and developed as a second branch of the Montecristo cigars.

In spite of the limited edition of the bard, Diplomaticos is the object of affection by many devoted followers.

According to the cigar experts the best tobacco comes from the premium Vuelta Abajo region in Cuba, with the rich red soil the region gives special taste to the tobacco Diplomaticos cigars taste with excellent combination of Diplomatico cigars are generally considered to be medium-to-full bodied. The tobacco blend, made to cater to the tastes of French cigar smokers, is milder than that of the Montecristo. As such, Diplomaticos make a good substitute for those unable to enjoy Montecristos on a regular basis.These premium Cuban cigars generally have a spicy taste with flavors ranging from peppery to moist earth, with some leather and a unique and distinct nuttiness.
