Montecristo Cigars
Montecristo is the world famous genuine Habanos cigar from Cuba. It is easy to realize that Montecristo brand was inspired after the publication of the famous novel The Count of Monte Cristo, by by the Alexandre Dumas.
The exquisite Montecristo cigars offer the connoisseur a rich, sensual smoking experience. Montecristo cigar brand was created in 1935 with the association of two cigar makers , Cuban businessman Alonso Menéndez and another cigarmaker from Asturias, José García. Menéndez, García & Co launched the cigar brand in 1936. Menéndez, García & Co managed to acquire the H. Upmann marque from J. Frankau & Co, and concentrated in developing their own subset of the regular H. Upmann line, called the H. Upmann Montecristo Selection.
Originally the line had only 5 sizes and remained unchanged until after the Cuban Revolution and the nationalization, with the addition of tubed cigar in 1940s. Soon after Fidel Castro came to power in 1959, the businesses completely owned by Menéndez, García & Co were taken over by the state. The brand was further promoted by the top grade torcedores, José Manuel Gonzalez, who became floor manager of the Montecristo brand.
The 1970 year is marked by the addition of the 4 new sizes: the 9 1/4 in. Montecristo A; the slender Especiales and Especiales No.2; and the panatela sized Joyita.
By 1980 it was recognized as the world's top seller. The Montecristo brand popularity based on its unique tobacco blend, that provides medium-bodied smoke with notes of spice and nuts followed by a sweet.
Made exclusively with Vuelta Abajo tobacco, Montecristo cigars are typically very aromatic with a slight tanginess. Very smooth and fragrant, Montecristos have a great draw and delightfully spicy taste.
Made with slightly oily colorado-claro wrappers and specially graded ligero leaves in the filler, Montecristos have a creamy mildness with complex earthy tones, rich chocolate notes, and a daunting aroma of roasted spice and vanilla.
