| A total of $328 million in payments to U.S. tobacco growers will begin within the next few weeks and will be made either by the U.S. Agriculture Department or by the states, said department spokesman Steve Thompson.
The aid is part of the $8.7 billion federal financial bailout for farmers enacted in October to compensate for low crop prices and natural disasters. |
