Roswell Park to receive $1.1M for anti-smoking programs

Roswell Park Cancer Institute is in line for more than $1 million from New York state as part of a plan to reduce tobacco use.
In all, the state will fund $19.7 million to 19 tobacco cessation centers and 74 community-based organizations. Roswell Park is slated to receive $811,000 under the community-based smoking prevention and reduction initiative and another $324,000 for the cancer hospital's smoking cessation center. The smoking cessation center at the Southern Tier Health Care System Inc. in Olean was awarded $100,000 and $75,000 for smoking prevention. Other area facilities to receive funding for smoking prevention include the Genesee/Orleans Council on Alcoholism, $208,000; Chautauqua County Dept. of Health, $294,000; Cornell Cooperative Extension of Niagara County, $105,000.
