Six Counties Get Anti-Smoking Grants

05/21/04
Agencies in six counties have received grants to provide free or low-cost ways to quit smoking.
The Wyoming Quit Tobacco Program funding has been awarded to hospitals in Albany, Campbell, Johnson, Natrona, Laramie and Sheridan counties. A nonprofit group, Wyoming Health Resources Network, will run the program under a contract with the Wyoming Department of Health. Funding comes from the state's share of a national tobacco settlement. The program advocates a three-pronged approach to quitting through counseling, nicotine replacement therapy and medication. Health officials say that approach is usually most effective.
