Romeo & Julieta Cigars

Named after the name of lovers from William Shakespeare's tragedy, this cigar brand was developed in 1875 by Inocencio Alvarez and Mannin Garcia. The brand immediately showed its quality by winning gold medals in four universal expositions between 1885 and 1900.

However, the brand truly bloomed after it was acquired by Jose "Pepin" Rodriguez Fernandez, former head of the Cabañas factory in Havana, and his firm, Rodríguez, Argüelles y Cia, in 1903. He offered personalised cigar bands to his very best customers, including monarchs, celebrities and heads of state. At one point, his factory was producing close to 2000 different bands.The brand also is traditionally credited with the introduction of the "Churchill" shape in honor of the British statesman Winston Churchill.

Today, Romeo y Julieta cigars are available in nearly 40 shapes and sizes, in handmade and machine-made models. With a quality that has always been consistently high, they are one of the top-selling brands in the world.

In general, Romeo y Julieta cigars are medium-to-full bodied, using the finest quality tobacco from select plantations in the Vuelta Abajo region. However, with such a large range, it is difficult to describe all the variations of flavors acheived by these cigars.For the most part, one should expect notes of coffee, leather, wood, cocoa, and nuts.
