A new brand of Cuban cigars was founded in 1996. It was called Vegueros to honor the cultivators of the Vuelta Abajo plantations, Vegueros literally translates to "harvester". It honors cultivators of the tobacco plantations in Vuelta Abajo who were anonymous artists for hundred of years. While tobacco plants are ready for harvesting after only 40 days from planting the process of picking is an art known only to the Vegueros. He must pick with knowing hands since only 2 to 3 leaves can be picked at one time. This means it can take the Vegueros up to 30 days to harvest one plant. It is because of the importance of his skill and knowledge that this brand was named for the Vegueros.

The four cigars produced by the brand are mild, slightly herbaceous and well balanced. The four are: Especiales No. 1, Especiales No. 2, Mareva, and Seoane.
The Vegueros Especiales No. 1 is Elegant and unusual, these mild to medium bodied cigars yield a herbaceous and grassy flavor with an increasing spicy note. They are delightfully easy to smoke. They are long at 192 mm and like Especiales No. 2 offering, an elegant 15.08 mm in diameter.
The Vegueros Especiales No. 2 manifest a delicious aroma of honey and flowers, with a light Cuban tobacco flavor and a mellow spiciness. Very smooth smoking and 152 mm long.
The Mareva at 129 mm long and 16.67 mm in diameter is a notable cigar from this new brand. The hand selected leaves are from Pinar del Rio but have a different flavor. This cigar is recommend from the point of view that it is unique both in flavor and aroma.
The Seoane is 125 mm x 14.29 mm. This format used to be called "Tabaquito" (small tobacco) in tobacco growers circles. A small cigar for a short break, with medium flavor and aroma. It's also an easy to smoke cigar.
